Weeton Camp 2005

We arrived at the Weeton Camp Stages full of expectations and confidence that we could achieve a good result, having been to the venue on a couple of occasions before. The entry list showed the Class A challengers headed by the Peugeot 205 of David Benson and we expected him to take charge of the class. The remainder of the class we felt was up for grabs and we intended to give it our best.

Driving positive but well within himself, Chris was posting very respectable times, slowly climbing the leaderboard. Stages five and six saw a big push and saw us climbing to 18th overall. Going into stage seven, Chris continued the same pace, but as we approached the end the stage, the back end of the car got out of shape on some loose gravel, due to our speed we ended up as passengers as the car speared towards a signpost, the car hit the post with some force and caused extensive damage to the offside front corner of the car. The wheel was jammed up against the door pillar and unable to turn, meaning instant retirement.

As we predicted Dave Benson went on to dominate the class, eventually coming home in a tremendous 7th overall.
